About us
Stories that make you angry or hopeful... Now you can act on them!
Good, independent media is vital to an accountable society. Media unpack complex issues, expose essential truths and point to solutions.
Decision-makers respond to the news—making decisions to avoid bad press or gain good press.
MediaAMP brings stories that are prime for citizen action to your inbox once a week. We select the action decision-makers can take right now and the people who can make that action happen. With the easy MediaAMP tool, you can send them a quick email with a link to the story.
The right stories to the right people at the right time = influence!
MediaAMP Issues
We focus on stories that promote equitable and sustainable practices in three areas:
Democracy and Governance
Climate Change and the Environment
Economic and Business Practices
Other issues are very important but are out of scope for MediaAMP. See more on scope in the FAQ.
How You Impact Decisions
Some of the people you email are not accustomed to hearing from Canadians. They may be a Minister’s staffer, the company communications person, a major funder, or a board member of a pension fund invested in the company. Suddenly, they are getting emails from Canadians on an issue that is highly relevant to them. It could be:
- new information they need to look into.
- something they need to address; it’s in the news and people are talking about it.
- the show of public support they need to take action.
The power of MediaAMP is personal and constructive messages that leverage the news. This get's attention.

A Word About Impact
Countless factors influence the decisions made by government and business leaders. MediaAMP is just one. But strategically targeted and constructive messages on current news get attention. This is Canadians directly emailing decision-makers; it’s not a mass email campaign. Your MP or MPP is copied when appropriate, increasing your impact.
MediaAMP will monitor and analyze the impact of actions and report annually on this site.
The Origins of MediaAMP
Doug Blackburn
MediaAMP Founder
I’ve been fortunate to spend most of my working life in justice-oriented, not-for-profit work. I’ve seen the impact campaigns have when your issue is in the news, actions are focused, and you are talking to the people who can make change happen. When the Federal Minister of Finance tells you to “keep the pressure up” in your campaign because there is a real opportunity for positive change, you know you are on target!
My work experience led me to do personal advocacy. As I read news stories, I would fire off an email to people I felt could take practical, concrete action. Receiving appreciative responses and seeing actions taken told me I was on to something.
We can be more than passive consumers of news. We can be engaged citizens, using the news to effect positive change.
Thank you for your interest in MediaAMP. I’m excited to see where our collective action and wisdom will take us. Let me know your thoughts here.
